WHAT DECEMBER DIDN’T FINISH
December winds came ravaging the landscape of my soul
Thirty-one days that tore my world apart
New Year came with savagery, colloquy and cold
Each new day a dagger through my heart
Winter rain brought flooded plains that crested mountain tops
And it ain’t slowing or showing signs of stopping
Left to reap the empty pain of fields of failing crops
The writing’s on the wall and signs are dropping
What December didn’t finish you and January did
Better days are better off forgotten
What December didn’t finish you and January did
There can’t be much more before I finally hit the bottom
Can’t count the cost of ice and frost that chilled me to the bone
The arctic blast of winter warlock’s words
Your lexicon accosted, a barrage of sticks and stones
A tapestry, language two edge sword
What December didn’t finish you and January did
Better days are better off forgotten
What December didn’t finish you and January did
There can’t be much more before I finally hit the bottom
If I’m apoplectic it’s not without excuse
I can’t go through this again
You can be apologetic, bu really what’s the use
When spring will never come again
Photographic memory keeps the vision lucid
Even though I try I can’t forget
I’ll still wear the scars of this winter’s abuse
The shrapnel still imbedded in my skin
What December didn’t finish you and January did
Better days are better off forgotten
What December didn’t finish you and January did
There can’t be much more before I finally hit the bottom
