FAMILIAR FACES

Up late check the the email, get online status update say what’s on my mind

Can’t figure out if I feel old or just tired when I see the chat box popping up on the wire

Then it’s Hey man! How’ve you been? IBeen too long

But I heard your song playin’ on the radio - way to go!

Everybody knew some day you’d make the big time

Never a doubt in our minds when you left us behind

How’s the weather back home? How’re your mom and dad?

And your wife? What? Man that’s too bad

Thought you were perfect for each other I would never have guessed

That she’d up and walk out I bet the kids are a mess

Me? We’re doin’ fine, year 22

2 girls 2 cats and a dog -  it’s all cool

Yeah it’s sweet, we’ll be touring this fall

If we’re anywhere close I swear I’ll give you a call

We could hang out like we used to when the world was still young

And go back to all our usual places

We can laugh about the good times when the moon was just hung

How I forget the names of familiar faces

It got me thinkin’ ‘bout the used to be back when

Growin’ up good friends “what ifs,” “could have beens”

Few responsibilities and time to burn

Future unwritten, opportunity at every turn

It could’ve turned out different taken a different spin

Thought I had my whole life mapped out back then

But fate stepped in and it spun me around

Took everything I thought I knew and turned it upside down

Birds of a feather flew different ways

It was a long time ago but feels like yesterday

I left the home town city bound I knew what was up

And then the heart break plans change the usual stuff

Had a time when I wasn’t sure I’d make it through

Had to change my state of mind figure out what to do

I learned time flies so I better make my time real

And who says “You can’t go home again?” Cause I feel like

Hanging like we used to when the world was still young

And going back to all our usual places

Laughing ‘bout the good times when the moon was just hung

And forgetting the names of familiar faces

So now when I look back there’s just one thing that I’d change

I’d be more laid back and take life as it came

Bittersweet nostalgia comes and reminds

Transports us to another place and time

In the blink of an eye we’re back to when

We didn’t see everything through such a tainted lens

When the world was brighter more stars in the sky

To a time when innocence wasn’t so hard to come by
