LEFT BEHIND
Set ‘em up Joe, I’ll knock ‘em down
Yeah it’s been a while since I’ve been around
How you been, I heard your old lady split the scene
Yeah mine too it’s been about seven months now
I got a place down on the south side of town
Just trying to keep my head above water if you know what I mean
And I hear all these people talk about happiness
I never dreamed I’d settle for anything less
Now it seems it takes all I’ve got just to get through one day at a time
Thought the world would stop turning instead it just left me behind
Had this new girl that I’ve been seeing
But I knew she was just an in between and
I let her go cause I didn’t want to lead her on
No I ain’t hanging out too much these days
Can’t afford to with the money she takes
But the hardest part for me is getting used to being alone
I’d like to hear Cupid defend his position
‘Cause it’s his fault that I’m in this condition
He must have been on a one-man mission to break this heart of mine
Thought the world would stop turning instead it just left me behind
I’ve done my share of complaining
Asking God for a little explaining
But someday soon it’s gonna stop raining and the sun will shine
Nice to see you but I should be on my way
To catch that last cross-town bus before it’s too late
Cabs cost too much and it’s too far to walk
I have to leave for work at half past five
Killing myself to barely stay alive
But some day I’ll look back and laugh cause I’ll be all right
I’m gonna be like Dan Marino in a comeback game
Like Gene Kelly singing in the rain
Like a phoenix rising from the flames no you can’t keep a good man down
I’ll be like Mike Tyson biting off an ear
I may be beaten up but I’m still here
There’s no place left to go but up from here it’s all a state of mind
Somebody stop the world from turning before I get left behind
