FRIDAY NIGHT

I’ve been trying to find a way to bring this out into the light

But every time I start to speak the words don’t come out right

Cause I’m no Don Juan, I’ve got no game, don’t know no pick up lines

So I hoped that things would simply fall in place when it was time  

If I were a poet words would roll right off my tongue

So bear with me if I st-st-start to stutter and c-come undone

Sometimes my introverted personality’s a curse

I don’t want to seem a phantom but I covet Eric’s nerves

I know you’ve caught me gazing more than once or twice

I’m so nervous my knees are shaking but it’s time to roll the dice

Are you busy Friday night? ‘Cause I know this place downtown if you like

Big Band Music, dancing swing and Italian food this is just your thing

But if Friday night is bad then how about some other time this weekend

We could take out food, take in a show, take a walk, take a drive

Are you busy Friday night?

Now the lines that I’ve rehearsed all sound so stupid in my head

But it’s too late to turn back - wish I was someplace else instead

I suppose it’s probably funny I’m in such a panicked state

Feel like a middle school kid asking his first crush out on a date

Might be only wishful thinking but I still want to believe

That you might say ‘yes’ though I confess you’re way out of my league

Then again I thought I saw a smile that I just saw go creeping ‘cross your lips

Or maybe it’s just my imagination playing tricks

Sweaty palms, my nerves are shot, gotta keep myself composed

If I want to stand a chance to break this friend-zone status quo

Are you busy Friday night? maybe we could go out for a bite to eat

Or a movie or a walk in the park I’d like to see you somewhere other than just at work

But if Friday night’s bad then how about some other time this weekend

If the weather’s nice we might feed the ducks, ride a bike, fly a kite
